Old Forest Service Identification TREE Sign CAT FACE - $30 - (Tignall, GA)

This is an old Forest Service sign. It is made of paper and measures approx. 9" x 11" . It is fairly thick paper stock which is approx. .014" thick as compared to regular blue-line which is approx. .003" thick. Reads: "The Scar At The Base Of This Tree Is Called A "CAT FACE". It was caused by repeated forest fires. The first fire scalded the sapwood and caused the tree to secrete pitch on the wound. The next fire was intensified by the pitch and enlarged the scar. Each succeeding fire burned deeper than the last. Eventually, if fires were allowed to continue, the tree would burn down. Fire scars give entrance to fungous disease and wood-boring insects, which ruin the tree for lumber and eventually kill it. Fire also kills the young seedlings necessary to replace the tree when it dies or is cut. By these devious ways even light ground fires destroy the productiveness of the Forest. PREVENT FOREST FIRES" I was told from the elderly couple that I acquired these from that they were in an old Forest Service building that they had bought years ago and that's where they had been stored until I got them. According to the information I've gathered this was the official FS emblem used from 1920-1938. This one is not dated . This one has some light wear , creasing, smudges and there is a tack/nail hole at the top within the emblem. Please check out my other listings.
