Vintage B.P. de Silva 14K Gold Mabe Rosy Pearl Earrings Screwback - $350 - (Mcbride, BC)

Now this is a brand you don't often see. Based in Hong Kong, the centuries-old B.P. De Silva jewellers were Mikimoto agents in the mid-1950s and later. In addition, they have made their own luxury level jewellery for centuries. The mabe pearls of these gorgeous 14k yellow gold earrings are not the silver or dead white color ordinarily seen in North America, but instead feature the rosy hues traditionally preferred in the Orient. Pearls are known for their magical ability to heighten the color of your complexion and I think these high lustre rose colored ones are exceptional in that regard. One earring back is marked B.P. and the other is marked 14K. These mid century earrings are screwback and have exactly the same flower patterned backs and short shafts I have observed on Ming's of Hawaii mabe pearl earrings from the same era. It seems logical to me that B.P. De Silva, which is still going strong today, would have had a business relationship with Ming's as well as Mikimoto, considering both are synonymous with top quality gemstones. The mabe pearl in each earring measures 9/16" across (nearly 14 mm). Together, the two earrings weigh 6.8 grams.
