The theme of this Japanese scroll is "Priest Henjyo-Shonin Fall From Horse." This hanging scroll is attributed to Kano Tan'yu (1602-1674), one of the foremost painters of the Kano School. His original given name was Morinobu. The estimated age of the scroll is circa 1670. The size of the painting is 36" by 10.5", and the size of the mounted scroll is 66.5" by 11" There is a red stamp and black writing in bottom left corner of scroll. There are creases running across scroll. The mounting is worn. The ribbons at top are worn and one has a tear. Mounting has age stains and small black spots which may be age or mold spots. Scroll is in fairly good condition considering its age of over 340 years.
