CHELSEA Claremont 4" Brass Ships Bell Clock/Barometer 1955-59 Serviced - $2,899 - (Princess Anne, MD)
This is a beautiful, classic, vintage 1955-1959 Claremont Chelsea Clock Company Ships Wheel Clock and Barometer set. It's an original, rare and unique set in fantastic, working condition. We had the clock serviced in February 2016 by a professional, local clock repair specialist. Parts are all original. Set did not require full refurbishing, however it needed to have routine maintenance including cleaning, oiling and regulating. No parts needed replacing. Servicing order will be included with the sale. When the clock was serviced, the serial number, 615260, was obtained and noted on the order. I contacted Chelsea Clock Company and their representative told me that serial number dates the clock between 1955-1959. (My email communications with Chelsea are available if the buyer wishes to have them) The clock and barometer cases are brass, with brass spokes and have a ships wheel design. They are mounted together on a bronze base. Base is bronze, black in color, and has ball feet. Dials are "silvered" and the hands are spade style. There are two winding points, at the 4 pm and 8 pm markers. There is no bell turn-on, turn-off switch, which is common in clocks that pre-date 1959. The switch was added to their models after 1959. The condition is extremely good for a clock of this age. There is some darkening of the patina on the front of the brass door, especially on the clock. This is is no doubt from skin oils touching the brass to open the door in order to wind, which is to be expected. (See last photo). I have not polished the brass to remove any patina. Included in the sale is a new, brass key that I purchased directly from Chelsea. The clock keeps perfect time, and chimes on the hour and half-hour marks. The bell chimes at the appropriate "watch" times known to mariners for centuries. The barometer functions as it should.
