Chinook Columbia River Ram's Head/Two Human Faces Anthropomorphic Effigy Mortar - $5,900 - (Lebanon, OR)

This is a 7" tall Chinook Columbia River Ram's Head/Two Human Face Anthropomorphic Effigy Mortar. An extremely rare Columbia River artifact. This effigy mortar is made from tannish black medium pore lava.The artifact measures 7" tall by 10" long and has a 5 1/2" by 6" mortar hole opening. The mortar hole is 5" deep. The bottom flat area of the base measures 5" by 4". The Ram's Head measures 4" high by 4" wide and features a complete Ram's Head with mouth, eyes, nose and Ram's horns. The first carved human face measures 1 3/4" high by 1 1/4" wide by 3/4" deep (raised off face of stone) and has eyes, nose, mouth, hair and chin. The second human face measures 2 1/4" tall by 1 1/2" wide by 3/4" deep and has eyes, nose, mouth, hair and chin.This effigy mortar was found on private land in 1957 along the South Side of the Columbia River across from Bingen, Washington by Dusty Rhodes of Tri-Cities, Washington.All artifacts I sell were found on private land in total compliance with all applicable State and Federal Laws.Complete provenance is available on this mortar.The artifact will be custom packed by our local UPS Store and shipped insured at a est. fixed fee of $50.00.
