ANTHONY RIZZO CUBS 2016 WORLD SERIES GAME-USED CLEATS GAMES 3, 4, 5 AT WRIGLEY - $40,000 - (Leawood, KS)
These cleats were worn by Anthony Rizzo for all three games of the 2016 World Series played at Wrigley Field – marking the first World Series games played and the first World Series game won (Game 5) by the Cubs at Wrigley in 71 years. While wearing these cleats for games 3, 4, and 5, Rizzo batted a blistering .400, with five hits, two extra-base hits, an RBI and a stolen base, in addition to making a circus catch in Game 5 that ranks as one of the best in World Series history. The cleats were signed and inscribed by Anthony Rizzo and feature authentication holograms from Major League Baseball and Fanatics. They are the only known autographed item from the 2016 World Series to have been authenticated by MLB as ‘Game-used’ (versus ‘Autographed’ or ‘Player Collected Item’), and the only known autographed item used in multiple games. These cleats are the only example of game-used equipment from the 2016 World Series known to be in private hands, as the only other known items are part of the Chicago Sports Museum. The Chicago Cubs finished the 2016 regular season with their highest win total (103) since 1910, as first baseman Anthony Rizzo became the first left-handed hitter in the Cubs 145-year history to finish the season with 30 home runs and 40 doubles, and the first lefty in franchise history with three consecutive 30 home run seasons. In a year that saw him receive more All-Star votes than any other National League player, Rizzo was also awarded his first Gold Glove – the youngest player in Cubs history to win the award – and the Platinum Glove as the best defensive player in the National League. Rizzo also received a Silver Slugger award. But the accomplishments and awards of the regular season paled in comparison to the ultimate prize – as Rizzo powered the Cubs to their first World Series title in 108 years. In the World Series, Rizzo led all Cubs position players in runs scored, extra base hits, on-base percentage and slugging percentage
