MOODY, TEARFUL NIGHT depicts the mortally wounded President Lincoln being carried from Ford's Theatre by a doctor and four soldiers. The title of the sculpture is from Walt Whitman's poem on the death of the President, "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd." This sculpture is featured in The Lincoln Enigma: The Changing Faces of an American Icon edited by Gabor Boritt, published by Oxford University Press. One casting is on loan to Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island from the collection of Frank and Virginia Williams. A second casting was donated to the Allen County Public Library in Indiana by Ian and Mimi Roland. The dedication ceremony took place in September 2015 and was hosted by Lincoln scholar and author Harold Holzer. Two photos from that event are included here. The full dedication may be viewed on YouTube. The bronze is limited to an edition of seven. The one offered here is the Artist's Proof. The polychrome sculpture measures 32" x 34" x 26" and is mounted on a custom-made black walnut base. The artist is Richard Masloski. Among his public monuments are a life-size Lincoln in Peekskill, a Rip Van Winkle in Irvington-on-Hudson, and a Gold Star Mothers Monument in Yonkers.
