Vintage Samuel Terry Pillar and Splat shelf clock, ca. 1830, unusual carvings - $195 - (Sierra City, CA)
We are offering this nice Samuel Terry pillar and splat shelf clock. Dating from about 1830, clock features a wooden works movement, typical of the period. This clock features one of their higher grade cases, with carved columns and a very unusual deep relief carved crest. As far as I can tell, the glass panels are original, and reverse painted tablet as well. Wood movement has a couple pinion gear teeth that were re-attached with hide glue at some time. Appears to have original iron weights, pendulum looks to be a later addition. One dial hand is missing. Case is basically sound, there is a missing pediment molding and some veneer loss, as seen in photos. Measures 34" high. I believe this clock is well worth restoring, it does need some work. Probably not in running condition as it sits. Buyer only pays actual shipping cost, with no handling charges.
