VERY SMALL VERY RARE VINTAGE SEED BEADS 1 ounce, 32 grams These were among a huge stock of beads used for the restoration of Native American Indian beaded artifacts by a museum curator named Ralph "Doc" Hubbard, a nationally recognized authority on the history of North American tribes. He was born in 1886 and worked until just a few years before his death in 1980. He lived an amazing life. A quick internet search for " Ralph 'Doc' Hubbard" will tell you more about the gentleman who originally acquired these beads. There are four distinct colors in this mix: GOLD Metallic LIGHT GOLD Metallic SILVER Metallic & OPALESCENT PEARL Translucent Notice that among the mix are some very fancy cut glass gold beads. It is a good, even mix. The beads are actually easy to distinguish, and it would be quite possible to separate them into groups by specific colors. They are in excellent condition, having been stored in a sealed glass bottle for many decades. They are among the smallest seed beads ever made and are true antiques. Metallic beads of this sort were sometimes used as outlining colors or in intricate patterns by the skilled artisans of the Northern Plains tribes. Their work is astonishing. There are about 25 beads per inch. This lot weighs just over 1 ounce or 32 grams. (Seed beads in such small sizes are usually sold by the gram.)
