Ridgway, Sparkes & Ridgway Chelsea Pattern Earthenware Dinner Bowl, Hand-Colored English Transferware, 1875-1879 This is a beautiful bowl - the colors are rich and the pattern is lovely. I was drawn to it right away.The transfer is black with hand painted pink, green, turquoise and red oxide color enamel (a very unusual color scheme for the Chelsea pattern). The english patent registry mark dates May 31, 1875, consistent with the Chelsea pattern production time of 1875-1879. An example of this color/pattern is included in the Brooklyn Museum Decorative Arts collection, which is catalogued online for your reference.
