Imari porcelain ochoko sake or tea cups from around 1850, Meiji era - $100 - (Arcata, CA)

This antique group of Umari sake cups is in excellent condition with no chips. Great condition for 120 years old!” The Scene depicts a husband and wife rabbit hunting. Very delicate exquisite drawing and detail characteristic of early Imari porcelain. All the original gold filigree is in tact. This is a beautiful set of 5 highly collectible, very old antique Japanese Imari porcelain ochoko sake or tea cups that belonged to my great aunt and were passed down eventually to me. They have been in our family for over 100-120 years and to my knowledge have never been used, they were displayed always in a case. The cups have an elegant, refined shape, coming to a little circular foot at the bottom. They feel good in the hand. All 5 cups have the same design that depicts a man hunting with a female sitting beside him. The bottom of each cup is signed in red kanji. They are from around 1850, Meiji era. The condition of this set is excellent including all the original gold - the glazes are in great condition! I am told by the Asian museum curator that these small cups can be referred to by several different terms such as ochoko, guinomi or sakazuki. The ochoko style were the most petite and I believe these cups are ochoko. They measure about 2" high x 1.5" in diameter. They are so lovely and I hope will enhance someone's home. They come from a good family with a long-term multi-generation appreciation of Asian antiques. These items are very light weight, but will need to be double boxed to protect them. Please bid in peace.
